Club Reports: The Castle, Barbarella (Tampa)

When it comes to Industrial, Dark Electro and Power Noise, nothing strikes fear in the heart of mortal men like The Castle in Tampa's Ybor City!
Located in a former church, Goth just spills out onto the adjacent street.
DJ Paradise was on the Saturday night controls overseeing the action.  Fans of this type of music should visit Venue 13 on Friday nights in Orlando and The Castle on Saturday nights in Tampa.
The large dance floor was crowded but not as jammed as I've seen it during prior visits.
Vampiry go-go girls add a nice touch to the scene.
The club has been refurbished with new lounge furniture and new lights and sound equipment. Be sure to check out the DJ's super dark internet podcast at Communion After Dark!
Next stop Barbarella, the Independent Bar owned & operated Tampa clone.....
.....with Saturday night resident DJ Matt (Independent Bar) on the boards playing mostly 80's New Wave!
With the black walls, video monitors up above and the music, I felt like I was standing in my I-Bar spot!
When I first came in the dance floor was a bit spartan but when the DJ went completely 80's New Wave, the floor got jammed and stayed jammed!  Please note the shiny disco ball!
Those who have lived in Orlando long enough may recall that I-Bar's original name was Barbarella. Owner Indie John also operates a Barbarella in Austin but this Tampa location is just a couple months old and is just beginning to gain notoriety.  The club is following the same format as in Orlando with Indy College Night, Mac & Cheese Night, Grits & Gravy night, etc.  But the Saturday night format defines it!
Barbarella has an awesome rooftop outdoor patio bar which offers great potential in nice weather.  This was gained from the Hip Hop club Fuel that used to inhabit the space.  Fuel had been charged by the State in 2007 with allegedly refilling empty bottles with cheaper liquor.
You can't get more 80's than this!
You may ask yourself, how did I get here?  Same as it ever was! - Talking Heads - 1980.
