Club Reports: CityWalk (St. Patrick's Day)

Don't recall ever visiting CityWalk on a Wednesday night but it was St. Patrick's Day so I wanted to check it out. The only real acknowledgment of the holiday was at Pat O'Brien's, which was fenced-off for their own paid-admission party. They had a live rock band playing what to me is best described as noise. If anyone attended, was it worth the price?

Red Coconut Club had a decent little crowd dancing to mostly Top 40. This bachelorette was showing off her ass' last few days of freedom.

It wasn't crowded in The Groove but the crowd size waxed and waned throughout the evening. Heard a lot of the same songs in TG as I did up at RCC.

The band Blue Stone Circle was playing a lot of 8TRAX songs over at Margaritaville. The tables were full, the bar was full and even the dance floor had some people on it! PS-The frozen drinks at Fat Tuesday are awesome! Just $7 and you can elect an extra shot of 151 for just $1. The shot comes in its own shooter tube, plopped upside down right into your Squishee.

Margaritiville has got to be one of City Walk's most profitable clubs. It's quite packed every Fiday and Saturday night including the outdoor dining and drinking area. Lots of patrons eating as well as drinking throughout the evening. Like you said, the band does play a lot of 70's and 80's music and take requests as well. It gets pretty wild and crazy on that dance floor sometimes and also on the little stage outside because the DJ gets patrons to spontaneously perform (sing, dance, whatever0. It's really a fun place to go.

How can we get the clubs (coconut, groove, marley's, and m-ville) to stop playing the same formats? I thing the Groove should be dance/house, Red Coconut should be more top 40, Bob Marley - only Reggae/Reggaeton, and M-Ville srticktly party rock!!! I could not even begin to tell you how many times I have heard the same song in every club...SERIOUSLY!

Ken, the thing I "don't" like about Margaritaville though are all those restaurant tables. I wish there was a practical way to remove them when the restaurant closes and it becomes a club. The tables congest the place and since people continue to sit at them, it's very uncondusive to mingling.

Anonymous, SO TRUE. It is not untypical to hear the same song in 3 different clubs on the same night. I joke with friends that they have one copy of a CD of a song and when one club has played it, someone runs it down to the next club so they can play it.

KingBoB, after 10pm or so, when the band starts to perform, they do start to remove some of the empty tables nearest the stage to open up the dance floor. Most of the mingling takes place in and around the 2 bar areas, however, don't discount all the little groups seated at booths and tables, they tend to be the most vocal and uninhibited, and won't hesitiate to get up and mingle.

Thanks, Ken. I may spend more time in there if they play Oldies. Most times I've been there it's been their Classic Rock sets which I just don't care for.

Late I know, but I did venture into Pat O's for St Patricks...

$2 Bud drafts, mixing in food coloring. Three stiltwalkers (always stiltwalkers in Orlando!). And a little person (PC term?) dressed as a leprechaun. The band is Hypersona, an 80s hair metal cover band that usually does the off-nights at M-ville; nothing remotely Irish about them. There was a convention upstairs, the makers of TicTacs, tossing out beads--all colors, not just green. After maybe 2 hours, spent the rest of the night at Rising Star.

Honestly, I was hoping for something a bit more authentic. May suck it up and head to Raglan next year.
